I collaborated with a team of researchers on a series of exploratory workshops exploring how and where food and care systems join up.

The Context

I collaborated with researchers from The Observatory for Research and Practice on Food Systems and Social Reproduction on an exploratory project seeking to find out how care and food systems join up.

The Process

Through a series of three exploratory workshops with stakeholders and national (UK) and regional (Bristol) policy analysis, the workshops delved into how and where food and care systems join up to shape care-centred and equitable food systems in the UK (funded by Policy Bristol).

Food and care diagram

I attended the workshops, drawing and responding to the experiences, anecdotes and emotional temperature in the room. I developed alternative food policy diagrams (which took into account feedback from the workshops).

The animation

I collaborated with the researchers to create an animation that applied a qualitative approach to sharing the co-created process and honoured the experiences that were shared.

Sharing

When we showed the final animation at the online launch I applied the same process of capturing feedback through drawing. This feedback is part of the ongoing reflexive process, informing the engagement and co-creative process.

Legacy

Lead researchers Fiorella Picchioni, Barbora Adlerova and Anicee De France made a submission to the Right to Food Commission based on an exploratory policy analysis and the workshops. The team then made a conference presentation sharing their social reproduction methodologies as applied to food systems analysis in June 2026
